Memory and sensory storytelling sessions with older people and people with dementia.
Model of working -This working model is primarily based around individuals  using a person centred approach as a starting point to the sessions.
Through using improvisation, objects, music and sound effects to stimulate and unite the senses we invite people to share their interests and memories with the group. The contributions are then developed using a synesthetic approach which in turn becomes a whole group experience.
The memories and stories shared become part of a united piece which we the celebrate in the present.

'And now what’s that noise? The sound of a goat! Goats like to live in fields, Aisling had goats when she lived in Ireland and they all lived in the field but this goat is caught in the fence and It's Farmer Digby’s goat.! Quick, get on the phone to Father Digby and tell him that rest assured; we are going to rescue the goat.' - Together we pulled hard on the rope to release the goat from the hedge that it had got tangled up in.

Passions, hobbies and life events can trigger an authentic interaction between individuals and groups. People may share similar experiences and by this a camaraderie, connection and celebration of people and life is created  and the group have a common purpose and activity.
The results of this way of working may be an improvement in functioning at a basic level and a greater contentment. The social potential offered is great and creates strategies for tackling isolation. By being creatively occupied people assert their right to an independent existence, which in turn exerts a degree of control over ones world.

Memory and sensory storytelling seeks to improve, quality of life, well being, mood, self esteem and depression.

During the sessions there can be moments of magic as the group can flow from one experience to the next as everyone's contribution contributes to the whole and we go on a journey together.

Everyone learns about each other in a short space of time which includes the staff learning about their clients and spending time with their clients that is different from the everyday.

However when all is said and done, probably the most important thing of is that we all have fun!
