The Children's Hospital School at Great Ormond Street

Picture
The Children's Hospital School began with one teacher in 1951. It now teaches school-aged pupils ranging from 5 - 19, as well as children under five with Statements of Special Educational Need. Children of all abilities and all nationalities are taught.

In the school's 2009 OFSTED report each area inspected was awarded the top mark of “outstanding".

Coming Home - A Book of Words and Pictures

Picture
Between October 2009 and January 2010 Richard Neville and I ran a variety of activities with children, parents, cares, and staff with the theme of "Home". Home is a powerful subject, something that hovers around most peoples' thoughts. There were many occasions when the simple question "What does home mean to you?" received profound replies.

This book is the legacy of this project. Please click on the book to open and read it.

Visual art

I worked as a resident visual artist at Great Ormond Street from 2005 to 2012. Though I am not a qualified art therapist I have extensive experience working in both one-to-one and group settings. Visual art can be a valuable form of expression for children who are in very challenging situations and have difficulty communicating themselves in other ways.
